OdE tO a RocKin ArTisT

Whether you are a Dallasite or not and whether you knew this man or not I offer an inspiring read and VIEW!

RIP ALBERT SCHERBARTH my dear dear Super Nova of a brother. In longwindedness here I'm compelled to share my heart and a good deal of HIS ARTWORK SHOWN HERE shipped across the country in 2010 to feel it every day in my Bend, Oregon home. There are short TRIBUTES TO BERT created by mutual friends below, so I encourage you to CLICK READ AND VIEW and FEEL THE LOVE.

This passing has been particularly hard to process - HIT HOME -and when things are that way, you don’t know why - you must let your heart take its course - MOURN AND CELEBRATE THE SOUL. Finding some peace and solace admiring his art here and reading folk's loving babbles on SM to this WONDERFUL MADMAN. Everyone NAILED it - He was ICONIC, ORIGINAL, LOYAL, CRAZY, UNFILTERED, HELPFUL, BRILLIANT, NO-NONSENSE, BOLD, SARCASTIC and AMAZING. Each time memories surface from the past with Bert feel like yesterday. Surely we all have friends that have passed that elicit these feelings.

At the Art Bar, that gathering place of the hipster DFW Art Scene in the 90's into 2000 plus,  he was an early adopter (and Club Clearview regular before that) before anyone knew what or where it was - a fixture at the corner of the bar. From there he quietly commanded the entire space with his cool Bert presence. And no, he never paid for a drink, of course not! In 1989 he was in the first BIG TEX show celebrating the World's Largest State Fair in art deco Fair Park Dallas (see invite and his art piece attached) which became an annual Dallas must-do event for many years. Then in 1992, he competed in a gigantic outlaw art mural surrounding the bar and adjacent buildings which was the largest mural in the State of Texas in its time and precursor to the lauded Tunnelvisions project thereafter.

Albert T certainly was vanguard in his approach and embodiment of deconstructive and raw. Like many of us early Deep Ellumers he was drawn to the area's inspiration in the raw and elemental. He carried that on to The Cedars area in the 2000's and brought the Vibe there.  He also collaborated with many of us, bringing hip to our businesses, homes and outdoor venues. So enjoyed his touch in my 3000 Commerce loft where he took over the kitchen with his brushed aluminum masterwork, adorning with his "Pomegranate" art piece. (see photo here and above)

I'm fortunate to still hang 4 of his originals in my Bend home . Check out the photos and the frames. Bert always made frames with signature hand scratching and gouging to come up with that certain look which are art in and of themselves. I think it drove renown art framer Bill Daly mad. See the Dog offering here. The "Dog" and cityscape I couldn't quite interpret, so I queried Albert-

"I love it, but what exactly is that?"

He replied. "DUDE! just look at it. It's a dog licking its balls."

 Scratching my head -"Well....OK."

That was Bert - Classic Bert.
